East Metro Community Improvement District (EMCID)
Dekalb County, Georgia
David Gjertson – Co-Project Manager
Gj:D was engaged to use our experience in the development and implementation of Complete Streets for the East Metro Community Improvement District (EMCID) located in Dekalb County, Georgia. Streetscape improvements are a pivotal catalyst for advancing the economic development of any area. From carefully designed bike lanes to improved pedestrian crossings along corridors and enhanced landscaping, these improvements will profoundly attract both residents and visitors. In a strategic move towards economic development, East Metro Community Improvement District (EMCID) actively formulated an implementation strategy for six key corridors – Four major arterials; Turner Hill Road (SR 124), Covington Highway (US 278), Wesley Chapel Road, Panola road and two minor arterials: Klondike Road and Mall Parkway.
The corridors are planned to be reimagined as COMPLETE STREETS, representing more than mere physical changes—they signify a purposeful stride towards inclusive, dynamic, and aesthetically pleasing spaces. This initiative resonates with the spirit of EMCID's cultural resurgence,
propelling its economic prosperity and affirming a commitment to a thriving community that seamlessly integrates cultural richness with sustainable growth.
